Release Ops, Software Engineering Intern – 12 Months

Zynga is looking for new talent to join our Release Operations team. The team’s main responsibility is to manage releases to our players around the world.  As an associate software engineer you will assist the engineering arm of the team in building and maintaining tools to make that process as smooth as possible. You will also assist with release management tasks when required. You will be part of a global team reporting to the Senior Software Engineer based in the UK.


The tech stack you will work with includes:

  • AWS (S3, EC2, Athena, Glue, RDS, Redshift, Route53)
  • Git
  • Python/Ruby/Shell/Typescript/SCSS/HTML/JavasScript/Angular/MySQL
  • APIs (Apple/Google/Amazon/Microsoft etc.)
  • Fastlane


Main responsibilities: 

  • Manage the releases of Zynga titles via the Google Play Store, Apple App Store etc.
  • Create communication channels with assigned internal teams and keep them informed throughout a release process
  • Build and maintain relationships with Zynga teams to ensure smooth delivery of graphical assets, metadata, and builds to publishing partner storefronts
  • Create and maintain custom tools and services that automate, facilitate, and improve the distribution of products to various platform storefronts
  • Provide clear and concise information to stakeholders and the leadership team to reduce risks for app releases
  • Work with other members of the release team in Zynga across North America, India, and the UK
  • Any other responsibilities as needed


Examples of tasks include: 

  • Assisting in the development of our internal tools (full stack)
  • Researching and remaining knowledgeable regarding new platform APIs and API updates. And integrating new API features with our tools
  • Researching industry tech standards and helping to implement them to our processes
  • Troubleshooting and resolving build and submission issues and failures with game and other central Zynga teams
  • Learning the risks present in any planned submission and release
  • Identifying platform changes that may affect the business and highlight risks as needed
  • Reviewing and documenting retrospectives of submissions to improve and streamline the process
  • Providing additional assistance for other Release Operations tasks such as documentation, submissions and the administration of the Apple, Google Play, Microsoft, Nintendo, Amazon and other development portals

Relevant Technical Experience:

  • Completing a degree/training in software engineering/development/computing
  • Git (or other version control system)
  • Programming/Scripting experience
  • Python


Nice to haves:

  • An understanding of mobile ecosystems
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies
  • An understanding of app/game development
  • Experience or interest in automation
  • The engineering team is fullstack (frontend and backend) so awareness of both areas of engineering will be beneficial
  • Ruby

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
