Senior Graphics Engineer -Star Wars

Engineering (Austin-TX, Brighton-UK, London-UK)

We are looking for a Senior Graphics Engineer - Unreal to join us at Zynga Austin in creating Star Wars: Hunters™, a competitive arena combat game for the Nintendo Switch system and mobile devices. Star Wars: Hunters will bring players together to engage in thrilling, squad-based, multiplayer battles featuring a diverse array of distinctive new Star Wars characters.  

Main Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering, design, user experience, product and analytics teams to identify needs and work to specifications to implement software solutions.
  • Write well crafted, efficient and testable code in C++ and HLSL/GLSL for Vulkan, DirectX, OpenGL and Metal.
  • Tackle problems across rendering, optimization, tooling development, and making beautiful visuals run smoothly on a wide range of devices.
  • Bring a proven understanding of algorithms, design patterns, debugging and memory/performance optimization.
  • Strive for excellence in software craftsmanship, and collaborate with peers to improve software design.
  • Grow with the business; stretch yourself and learn new skills and domains.
  • Have fun; we’re making games!

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 6+ years proven experience as a console or PC software game developer
  • Strong C++ and shader language programming and debugging experience
  • Experience working with current graphics algorithms and hardware
  • Expertise with debugging a wide range of graphical issues
  • 3+ years experience with Unreal Engine or an equivalent proprietary game engine.
  • Excellent problem solving and strong interpersonal skills

    Main Responsibilities

    • Deliver compelling insights to influence decisions and roadmaps
    • Analytically tackle problems and deliver robust modelling
    • Communicate convincingly through visual storytelling
    • Design and analyse experiments that advise decisions and help us continue to service the needs of our players
    • Work with peers on end to end data pipelines that empower end users
    • Contribute to the innovative thinking culture that drives our craft
    • Shape and manipulate sophisticated datasets to discover opportunities for driving value for the business
    • Apply creative thinking towards designing, testing, verifying, and implementing solutions
    • Champion our games and studio, and collaborate with analytics teams across Zynga

    Desired Experience & Skills  

    • BSc or BA, within Data Science, Math, Statistics, Computer Science preferred
    • Confident in manipulating, transforming, and analysing complex data at large scales
    • Experience in SQL and Python; excited to learn new languages where needed
    • Familiar with prominent infrastructures: Vertica, Spark, Databricks, others: Redshift, Snowflake, etc
    • Comfortable building out bespoke visuals/tools using open source technology or BI tools, e.g. Tableau
    • Passionate about the craft, and enjoys working in a dynamic environment
    • Comfortable explaining sophisticated ideas clearly and simply
    • Strong balance of business thinking alongside analytical and technical skills
    • Excellent attention to detail, natural curiosity, and ability to problem-solve creatively
    • Good influencing skills with partners across teams
    • Proven track record in similar roles, preferably within gaming
    • An interest in the games market
