Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

How NaturalMotion’s Euphoria Engine Helped Shape the most Succesful Star Wars Game Ever.

In 2007, Lucsarts revealed that NaturalMotion's Euphoria engine was going to feature heavily in their upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Not only was this an exciting moment for fans of the space opera, but it was a special moment for gaming too. Gamers couldn't believe their eyes, as desperate Stormtroopers acted like living beings falling through the air, grabbing objects and each other. The understanding that not only would this game give them the chance to wield some devastating Force powers, but that the results would be like nothing they had ever seen before.

Euphoria was picked up by the gaming press in a way that transcended the usual "game engine" talk. Suddenly here was a technology that didn't just make a game look pretty, it brought it to life. Every preview of the game enthused about the control that players had over the on screen action. This was a massive moment in game development. Games had taken a giant step forward in terms of entertainment. Suddenly there was a game within a game. The player had an incentive to play stylishly because the results were so rewarding.

The same is true for every title that has used Euphoria since. The Euphoria engine brings games to life.
