NaturalMotion Games Announces Formation,
Reveals Inaugural Titles Backbreaker 2: Vengeance and Jenga on the App Store
New Digital Publishing Division of Leading Technology and Development Company to Create Inspired, High-End Connected Games
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – November 18, 2010 – NaturalMotion Games, a digital publisher of high-end accessible games for connected platforms, today announced its formation and mission; to develop, produce and publish quality titles that offer consumers a new avenue of immersion and accessibility. NaturalMotion Games celebrates its unveiling by revealing the company’s inaugural games for iPhone, iPod touch and iOS: the arcade sports game Backbreaker 2: Vengeance, sequel to the multi-million selling title for iPhone, and the skill game Jenga®, based on the wildly popular block tower game. The Oxford and San Francisco based digital publisher will serve as the publishing arm of NaturalMotion, the leading game technology and development company that created the highly acclaimed and popular Backbreaker Football game and award-winning animation technology, Euphoria, utilized in several blockbuster console titles such as Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
“NaturalMotion Games’ mission is to deliver high-end games that are accessible and socially connected,” said Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion Games. “We believe there is a significant opportunity in combining the ease of use and connectivity of social games with the stunning performance of modern devices such iOS, Android and consoles. The success of our debut title Backbreaker has given us a strong entry into this market and we will expand on this with Backbreaker 2 and Jenga, as well as our range of upcoming additional projects.”
With over three million downloads, the original Backbreaker Football has become an App Store phenomenon as one of the most popular sports titles on the platform and a showcase for the power of smart phone technology. Backbreaker 2: Vengeance innovates on the original with stunning graphics and twice the gameplay, including a raft of new features, delivered with even higher-fidelity visuals and physical animations. A key addition is the all-new Vengeance mode, in which players now have the ability to stop the offense dead in their tracks by being able to tackle the ball carrier. Players can now also jump and truck in Tackle Alley mode, in addition to the existing spin and juke moves. There is also a new multi-touch super showboating feature that allows players to bag more points, but move slower. Will you want to risk it? Other new features include Game Center integration, two new stadiums including a breathtaking daytime San Francisco arena, on-field obstacles, and 100 new levels spread across Vengeance and Tackle Alley modes. Improving on what was already one of the most graphically advanced games on the App Store, Backbreaker 2: Vengeance adds console quality lighting, full Retina display resolution, and dynamic shadows. As with its predecessor, the action in Backbreaker 2 is powered by NaturalMotion’s Morpheme and Endorphin animation technologies, which helps produce an even smoother and more physical experience.
Jenga brings the much-loved game of physical and mental skill to iOS devices for the first time with stunning physics and all the fun and accessibility of the game classic and best-selling stacking game. In consultation with Jenga creator Leslie Scott and Jenga licensor Pokonobe Associates, Jenga for iPhone features easy controls, real tower physics and all the family fun of the wildly popular game. As with the tabletop game, players take turns removing a block from the tower to balance it on top, creating a taller and increasingly unstable structure as the game progresses. Jenga for iPhone is packed with modes, providing hours of fun, including the original Classic mode (how high can you go?), in a conveniently portable digital platform. Uniquely, Jenga for iPhone also features the brand new Jenga Arcade mode, in which players score points by matching colors, and earn coins to spend on special boosts. And because Jenga has always been about playing with friends, the Pass’n’Play mode lets players hand their device and tower to their neighbor and back – first player to make the tower fall loses! Players can see how their friends are doing worldwide, by peeking at an in-game comparison of their current tower next to their best efforts. Jenga for iPhone features full real-time physics, attributable to NaturalMotion’s experience in physics simulation, as well as two beautiful original environments, rendered at a quality previously only possible on next-generation consoles.
Backbreaker 2: Vengeance and Jenga are both currently in development and will be available on the App Store this holiday season.
NaturalMotion Games will make further announcements in the coming months that will reflect the company’s commitment to delivering innovative new games and experiences.
